Surrender (SOL Day 14)

Observe the many ways in which unease, discontent, and tension arise within you through unnecessary judgment, resistance to what is, and denial of the Now.

My mind has been speeding through life recently. At times, I feel I won’t be able to catch it. The tools I know and love haven’t been useful to calm this restless mind.

I picked up my worn copy of ‘The Power of Now’ today, in hopes of gaining an understanding, a new realization, or some guiding support through what feels like a challenging time in my life.

It didn’t take long to find exactly what I needed.

I can see now how much I’ve been resisting what is. I have been resisting my job, even though the resistance causes me more unease and pain. I’m learning a distinction between what I’m feeling and how I choose to react.

I can notice the dissonance I have in my career. I can look into options, make a plan, and take steps in a different direction.

I can do all this while still showing up each and every moment, with love.

Which means… I get to have patience with myself while I work a job that I don’t always feel passionate about, don’t always feel connected to, don’t always feel ‘great’ at… I get to love myself more through this process.

Instead of contaminating my spirit and my energy with resentment and resistance, I can choose to surrender and fully accept each moment.

No inner conflict.

No resistance.

No negativity.

For me, this goes beyond my idea of ‘being positive’ about a situation. There might be nothing positive in the moment. However, resisting only causes more distress and pain.

Surrendering means letting go of what I ‘should’ be doing and loving what is.
