Welcome and thanks for checking out my site. In a few days, I will be headed to Spain to spend my summer as an au pair (nanny). To keep you all close in touch, I will provide updates during my time there.
For those of you who would like a bit of background on how I came to this plan, I will fill you in. Two years ago I studied abroad in Madrid, Spain for a semester. During this time I took an Oceanography class which included a class trip to Mallorca, one of the Balearic Islands off the Mediterranean coast of Spain. We went scuba-diving, snorkeling, visited beaches, toured through windy small town roads, and saw a few major famous sites. It was by far one of my favorite trips. How could I not fall in love with Mallorca?
Over the past year I have been looking through several opportunities for work after college. A few things that caught my interest were teaching English abroad, volunteering abroad, and of course- being an au pair. Working as an au pair would give me the chance to work with children, intense practice with my Spanish, and a cultural experience. During my time in Madrid, I realized how useful going abroad can be to discover things about the world and yourself.
I joined a few websites that connect families with girls who want to au pair in another country. Soon after I was in contact with several families that were interested. One in particular caught my eye: a family in Menorca, the island next to Mallorca. Before long we were talking and now I’ll be joining their family for the summer in just a week!
I’ll save the family description for when I meet them all, but here are the quick facts. Jacky and Joan have two kids, a girl (Kai) 3 1/2 years old, and a boy (Bruni) 6 years old. They live in a quiet town called Ferreries in the center of Menorca. I’ll be living with them from the end of June until the middle of September.
Keep checking in as I’ll be posting during this time 🙂
